How well do you know yourself?

Have you ever wondered why you do some of the things you find yourself doing?  Is there something about yourself you aren’t comfortable with, but don’t understand why?  Are there things you’d like to change but don’t know how?  Do you feel you possess latent strengths and skills or talents, but don’t take them seriously?  Would you like to have more control of your life?

The first step is to realize and acknowledge our "programming".   Programming is a result of our environment, life experiences, belief systems, past teachings, karma, the stars, and who knows what!   The point is, we are the result of our programming, and we have the power to reprogram ourselves to be what we want to be – not necessarily what we’ve been taught, but what we feel in our hearts we should be and are.  Once we become aware of and accept our assets and liabilities, we then have the power to utilize or change any of these aspects we so desire.   "Knowledge IS power"!!  When you become aware of the different aspects of your beingness, you consciously have the power to change or nurture these aspects, as you so desire.

Although currently becoming more accepted, astrology is often ridiculed as being "supposed" knowledge – characterized as "hocus-pocus" – along with magick, tarot, crystals and other metaphysical "tools".  Yet, in reality, astrology is very strongly akin to its sister sciences – astronomy and astrophysics.  All three fields are based on a study of the celestial bodies and their effect on Earth and its inhabitants.

Let me quickly give you a few definitions – according to Webster’s:
  • "Astrology: the divination of the supposed influence of the stars and planets on human affairs and terrestrial events by their positions and aspects."
[Okay, now what exactly is metaphysics?]
  • "Metaphysics: philosophy made up of ontology and epistemology, a division of philosophy that includes ontology and cosmology; the more obtuse (difficult to understand) philosophical science."
[What were those ‘ologies?]
  • "Ontology: a branch of metaphysics concerned with the nature and relations of being; relating to or based upon being or existence; an argument for the existence of God based upon the meaning of the term God."
  • "Epistemology: to understand, know, to cause to stand; the study or a theory of the nature and grounds of knowledge esp. with reference to its limits and validity."
  • "Cosmology: a branch of metaphysics that deals with the Universe as an orderly system; a branch of astronomy that deals with the origin, structure and Space-Time relationships of the Universe."
[Wait a minute! "A branch of metaphysics …" and "a branch of astronomy …" in the same definition?!]

So, by our own "social-standard definitions," there’s a lot of similarity between man’s modern sciences and man’s ancient sciences.  It appears the further man advances technologically, the more he understands and realizes the true knowledge and wisdom of the ancients and metaphysics.  Okay – bottom line – there’s obviously no way to really separate modern science and ancient science.  In my opinion, astrology is an ancient science that can be extremely valuable to our modern world.  Astrology is not fortune telling or psychic insight – it is an ancient science based on thousands of years of research.

Occasionally someone will feel certain aspects of their chart don’t "fit" them.  There are many reasons for this – among the most common are:
  • Your Birthdate falls on a "cusp" – between two signs instead of squarely in the middle of one. The way charts are calculated today, this is not common, but it is possible.
  • Your programming has altered your instinctive nature. In other words, there may be a deep feeling of understanding of the indications in the chart, but life experiences have taught you to behave differently.
  • You may resist some characteristics that don’t appear or feel favorable.  For example, when I first had my natal chart drawn and interpreted, I strongly disagreed that I had a volatile temperament.  I never got that angry – upset, but not volatile – I didn’t yell, scream or throw things – I just cried.  However, years later, after much therapy and self-reflection, I realized I had just never been allowed to show my anger.   The truth was, I did get mad – I just internalized my anger – instead of screaming and swinging, I got sick.  Now that I accept and acknowledge that "dark" side of me, I do have to keep a rein on it at times.  I still wouldn’t call it volatile, but without my background, it very easily could be.

The main thing to remember when studying your natal chart is to consider the possibility this is an aspect of you – a part of you to become aware of and watch, maybe even learn, but not dwell on.

Remember, a natal chart is just that – a chart.   A navigational chart shows what things are where and perhaps even an average norm of depths and weather; but it is only meant to be a guide – you and Mother Nature determine the condition in the Now.  So it is with any chart. Yet, your chance of a successful journey or plan is much better with this insightful information than without it.
